It has been exactly 365 days since I stayed in a pretty magical place on the Earth. More precisely, in Cha’llapampa, located in the less touristy, northern part of Isla del Sol in Bolivia. Place you would never find (hopefully) in your guide, when doing big loop or small loop through South America… And you definitely wanna stay there! And simply BE… Today seems like a good day to share this tip 🙂
That place! Casa de Alfonso. Lo de Don Alfonso. Refugio de Wiracocha. Whichever form you choose and ask locals, they will guide you there.
Touristy unspoiled place with own rhythm. Place almost on the ridge of mountains, with scenic views to the Lake Titicaca and breathtaking Bolivian Andes. For lovely 20 BOB per night (less than 3€) for your private cozy room/house!
Heaven on Earth if you like simple life. If you want unforgettable local experience. Cultural and social exchange. Or if you want to disconnect from online reality (as there’s no wifi in the whole northern part). To have time for yourself. Or a break from your vacations?
If you want to watch the sunset above Inca ruins. Or better sunrise above mountains 6000m high? To smell fresh, thin air (as there are no cars on the island) and listen to the silence. To watch 1 million stars above you.
Or just chill, be, get inspired, hang out and share your time with other cool people, such as other alternative travelers and nomads, overstaying artists or owner family Choque Ticona (all born in Isla del Sol) … Maybe to learn something new? Experience is awaiting there to be created. Have a look.
I stayed in Casa de Alfonso 3 days and I loved it! Those days are definitely one of the highlights of my Southern America travel. I can imagine that If I hadn’t had to catch my plane plane from La Paz to Buenos Aires, and a day later back to Europe, I would have stayed there much longer. In this place things made perfect sense. Why you can experience essence of the place only if you stay with locals. Why less means more. Why it is important to stop for a while and enjoy the energy and uniqueness of the place.
Discovering Bolivia? Don’t miss Casa de Alfonso. Give yourself time to stop there for a while. And see what it will bring!
